Bhitarkanika National Park is a 145 km2 large national park in northeast Kendrapara district in Odisha in eastern India. The area is also been designated as a second Ramsar site of the State after Chilika Lake. It is surrounded by Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary, which is spread over 672 km2 (259 sq mi). Gahirmatha Beach and Marine Sanctuary are to the east, separating the swamp region and mangroves from the Bay of Bengal. The national park and wildlife sanctuary is inundated by the rivers Brahmani, Baitarani, Dhamra, Pathsala. The national park has many mangrove species and is the second-largest mangrove ecosystem in India. The national park is home to Saltwater crocodile  Indian python, king cobra, black ibis, darters, and many other species of flora and fauna. How to reach Bhitorkonika from Kolkata?

The driving distance from Kolkata is 375 km. Bhadrak rail station is a closed railhead from Bhitarkonika. From Bhadrak, one can choose to reach Chandbali, a river port, via bus and take a boat directly to Bhitarkanika.

ENTRY FEE NEED.

Permission is required to enter the park, which can be obtained from the entry gates of Khola or Gupti. Bhitokonika visit via boats or through walks in the dense forests. All the boats approve by the Forest Department and need booking that will ensure a comfortable travel experience.

 

Fauna

The park is home to the saltwater crocodile, Indian python, black ibis, wild boar, rhesus monkey, chital, darter, cobra, monitor lizard. Olive ridley turtles nest on Gahirmatha and other nearby beaches.

Flora

Mangroves are salt-tolerant, complex, and dynamic eco-systems that occur in tropical and subtropical intertidal regions. Bhitarkanika is one such location of rich, lush green vibrant ecosystem lying in the estuarine region of Brahmani - Baitarani in the North-Eastern corner of Kendrapara district of Odisha.

Bhitarkanika Tour Package Itinerary

 

DAY 1 : Arrival at Bhitarkanika

Check into the resort at around 12 Noon. After fresh n up complete your lunch. After Lunch spends time on the Bank of River Brahmani. Watch Beautiful Sunset. Have some tea/coffee in the evening. After dinner has a good night's sleep.

 

DAY 2 :  Bhitarkanika National park &  Pentha Beach Tour

After Breakfast transfer to board on a boat from Khola forest Gate for Mangrove Forest Safari. Watch creeks, birds, particularly different varieties of Kingfishers, egrets, Bramhani Kites, eagles.

Next visit Bagagahan Bird Sanctuary. From watch Tower. Watch Pelicans and different types of Storks.

Next after the watchtower Visit Bhitarkanika Forest Block. Visit Old Temple, Lotus Pond, Hunting Tower. From the watchtower, You might see Wild Boar, Jungle cats, Spotted Deer, and birds also.

After that visit Dangmal Crocodile Breeding and Research center. Look for different crocodiles kept there. Visit Interpretation cum Museum also.

Return back to Resort. Have your lunch.

 After Lunch visit Pentha Sea Beach by car. Pantha is around 38 Km from the resort and it’s also a part of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary (known as the World’s Largest Rookery of Olive Ridley Sea Turtle). Back to resort. 

Tea in the evening. 9.30 pm dinner. have a good night's sleep.

DAY 3  : Departure from Bhitorkonika to Bhadrak rail station.

Early Morning village walk.

After Breakfast check out from the resort. Start for return and drop Bhadrak rail station.

Tour ends with sweet memories.
